I tried out the following comment I saw on another site and it works to stop the calls so here it is; a do not call service for a small number of companies that call consumers that want to minimize complaints and save time not calling people who don't want to be called. Just call 866-246-7196, give the caller's phone number to confirm it's on their list and the receiving phone number to add to the do not call list.
I receive a phone call from this number with a caller ID off Center help when I go to return the phone call I'm told this number cannot be dialed. They leave no message and I have no way to find out who it belongs to.
got a call just a few minutes ago from this number, picked up because it looked like a local cell # and the call display had a person's name. travel dollar / air canada scam!
funny part is usually when you call back the number you get 'disconnected' or 'cannot be completed as dialed. when i called i got voicemail that had a man's voice saying the name that showed up on the display. so now scammers are 'spoofing' live numbers not just dead ones?
I ran a scan with Microsoft Security Essentials which found 16 threats and prompted me to restart the computer. Upon restart my computer ran some kind of diagnosis and then the screen went blue with the message:
A problem has been detected
xxxstop 0xFFFFFFFF (0xFFFFFFFF, 0xUUUUUUUU, 0xUUUUUUUU, 0xUUUUUUUU)
Windows Health is Critical
Please call technical support at:
to avoid system failure
I called the number and got "Thank you for calling technical support" Press 1 for technical assistance"
I pressed 1 and was quickly connected with a guy named "Sam" who had a slight to moderate foreign (India) accent. (SCAM ALERT - SCAM ALERT!) He never did identify himself as an employee of any specific company (let alone Microsoft). He asked a few personal and technical questions (I did not give my real name or phone number)and then asked me to press the Windows key and the "R" key so he could take control of my computer and try to fix it. Scam confirmed! I hung up!
I wish there was come kind of automatic dialer that I could set to dial this number day and night. I believe the phone company charges them so much every time their 888 number is called. I'd just love to rack up huge phone bills on these guys!
Voice recording, stating they received documents concerning a complaint about me, and gave a claim number. Message stated I could make a statement or find out what the call is about by pressing 1 or by calling 888-251-7928. I hung up. Also performed some reverse phone number searches; the 775 number is a landline listed in Reno, Nevada, but I can't get any information on the 888 number.
