Often telemarketers use similar phone numbers to make their calls so checking phone numbers around 202-621-0444 can help determine who is calling.
202-621-0453: I received a call from this number saying the Federal Government was giving out free $7000.00 grants and that I was to call back and give an authorization code and speak with a manager of accounts-Mathew McEvan. This person had my name phone number, address and asked for my age, not my birth date. The person calling had a foreign accent and was difficult to understand. I believe this call to be a scam-trying to obtain other information because I was told that I could receive this money forwarded to my Visa card or my bank account or as cash.
202-621-0559: An automated message claiming the IRS was filling a lawsuit. Left the same number as a call back. I did not call it back.
202-621-0599: This is on of those irs prank numbers. If you get something from these knuckleheads then don't call. The irs does not work this way so look up the irs directly and call that number instead.
202-621-0604: I received several phone calls from 199999 until I finally answered. A man with a heavy accent claiming to be named "Travis" told me that I had applied for a $15000 grant for school that I was eligible to receive. He said that it was from the "Government Grant" (Which in itself does not make much sense).
He said it would come in two days by FedEx but the catch was that I would have to go to KMart or Walmart and very specifically send them $300 for insurance through a GreenDot moneypack. Although I had already 99% realized this was a scam I decided to go to Walmart and KMart to inquire the thoughts of the GreenDot people. GreenDot did not exist at either location making their words absolutely worthless. If he calls back he's certainly going to get a piece of my mind about toying with students and their debt issues.
