LRM doesn't even know how to spell "courtesy" so their statement is invalid. And that is rude putting quotations around the woman's name who called you like she doesn't really exist. Trust me she was probably not thrilled to have dealt with you, its just her job and you were taken off the list already I'm sure so get over it.

I just received a call from this number from "Lakesha" asking for my date of birth (I declined to give it to her); when I asked about the purpose of the call, she told me it was a "curtsey call". I hung up.

Does anyone know how to block calls on a cell phone?

The call is actually from Bank of America. If you recently opened a credit card with them, they are going to call to see if you got it.

If you doubt it, just get the first and last name of the person who called you, and then call Bank of America customer service and ask them to look that person up. They will be in their directory.

It is from Bank of America. It is a new customer service line that they created to ensure that new card holders have received their credit card. The reason why they asked for security question is because they want to make sure that they are speaking to the appropriate person. If you call the fraud department, they can identify that for you. And yes, you are 100% correct by taking an extra step for security purposes to not give out any personal information.

I got a call from this number tonight (Fri July 11) at 8:30pm California time. Same story as everyone else. I asked for a call back number and then I called BofA. The BofA agent called the number and told me he got a recording that was definitely not BofA. He gave me an email for fraud complaints. I encourage everyone else to email BofA. We've got some bad people out there attempting fraud, and although those of us who have commented here did not go for it, you just know that there are others who were not so fortunate. Maybe if enough of us email BofA, the company will do something about it. The email address is: [email protected] Also, here's the recorded message I got when I called the 855 number back: "Thank you for calling Bank of America. We have attempted to contact you for an informational courtesy call. We are sorry we can't take your call right now, but rest assured that no action is required on your part at this time. Thank you and have a great day. " Weird...

I got the same call and then when she asked me about my social or my bday to verify the account, I asked in my abrupt, annoyed foreign accent tone, "This is bank of america? Well, I can't give you my information if I am not sure that this is bank of america!" Then she said, "I understand, Ok Have a good day."

Same experience. I didn't give them my information. They actually pronounced my name incorrectly, and then said that it was a courtesy call from "Bank America". I actually had a call with BoA yesterday, so at first I thought they were calling to inquire about the service or something, but when I asked what the call was in reference to, he just said "it's a courtesy call". I asked what was to be discussed and he said "it's just a courtesy call." Glad I didn't give them my information! I e-mailed BoA to let them know of the experience. I hope they can get the word out to their clients before any information is compromised!

Same boat as the other commenters. I got a call from a woman stating that it was Bank of America, and that I had to give her my birthday or last 4 digits of my SSN to continue. When I asked what the call was about she just said it was a courtesy call, whatever that means. I don't know if it was a scam or not, but I did not give her the info, and ended the call.

Yup, I also got a call from this number claiming she was calling from Bank of America. She asked me to verify some information and I just declined even before she finished her sentence. I have never received any unsolicited calls from BoA and I just didn't think this was a legit call from BoA. I am almost 100% certain this was a scam!
